Optus Junior Dolphin was a collaborative initiative with Swimming Australia, targeting young Australian swimmers aged 5-8. Sponsored by Optus, the project aimed to create a unique and engaging mascot and comprehensive marketing assets to promote swimming among children in this age group.
Solution
We designed a vibrant and friendly dolphin character, along with a logo that would resonate with young swimmers. To ensure the mascot's appeal, we took our design and another character created by a different agency to a primary school, allowing the children to choose their favorite. The unanimous choice was our dolphin character, highlighting its strong connection with the target audience. Additionally, we developed a suite of marketing materials to support the mascot's launch and ongoing use in events and promotions.
Outcome
The Optus Junior Dolphin project has been a resounding success nationwide. The character has become a beloved figure among young swimmers, and Swimming Australia's Junior Dolphin events, held during championships, have seen significant engagement and enthusiasm from participants and their families. The success of this initiative underscores the importance of child-centric design and the impact of involving the target audience in the creative process.
